I wake up to a tickling sensation on my stomach. Sebastian is mumbling about something to himself as we lie together. I might as well enjoy this moment while we have it. Who knows when Alois will demand our attention again? I feel Sebastian press his lips against the back of my neck and run two fingers down my upper abdomen. “This one was my fault…” he mumbles against my flesh.

“Are you counting my scars?” I ask him as I wipe the sleep from my eyes. I turn to him and pat his cheek softly. “I’ve been through quite a lot to get here.”

“It hurts me now to know that you suffered so greatly,” Sebastian tells me quietly. “And to think I added to that list of suffering…” He runs his fingers over the scar he gave me again.

“You also gave me a baby,” I tell him, brushing the ebony hair out of his crimson eyes. “I’ve suffered a lot in my life...but the moments that we have together now make all that suffering worth it.” I kiss Sebastian on his soft lips as I run my hands down his bare chest.

Sebastian crawls on top of me, kissing me more deeply with each passing second. “That makes me the happiest I’ve ever been,” he whispers against my lips. “I missed you so much over these last nine months...Ciel has never been such a hindrance before.”

“What happened? I know you know what happened to my Record, but why didn’t you come to me in my dreams?”

He stops kissing me and looks right into my eyes. “I was in the demons’ realm,” he tells me quietly. “That one is severed from all others. Have you ever wondered why it is the fallen angels that dwell in hell? It is a place for those who have cut off connection to God completely. My natural realm is just that. As long as I am in my realm, I can not have any contact with anything of God. I suppose you already know that everything of this earth is of God as well.”

“Why didn’t you come out of that realm?” I ask him softly.

“Ciel needed to get used to being a demon. Everything happened at such a fast pace...I had no chance to leave the realm until Ciel declared himself ready. And when that time came, our bond was so weak that I could not form a connection even though we were in the same world. Forgive me...please.”

“How could I blame you for something you could not control?” I ask him as I reach up to kiss his cheek. “Now tell me why you didn’t have my Record.”

“I had gone back for it--I truly had. I had searched the entire manor for your Record before I was dragged into the demons’ realm--before Ciel’s false funeral. But I couldn’t find it...so I promised to find you again the first chance I had.”
“How did it happen?” I ask him, getting a bit annoyed at his pleading defensiveness. “How did Undertaker get a hold of my Record?”

Sebastian’s eyes grow dark and he backs away from me a bit. “There are some beings who know only how to be a hindrance. Grell Sutcliff is one of those creatures.”

I sit up and punch Sebastian in the chest, successfully knocking him off of me. “Grell? It was Grell?” Every emotion I have ever felt begins to flow through my mind. “All this time?” Slowly, one emotion creeps out beyond all the rest. “H-he betrayed me.”

“The man is desperate...I doubt he can control himself,” Sebastian grumbles as he rubs his chest. “But he will not go unpunished. I promise to make him pay for hurting you so.”

“W-what are you planning?” I ask him softly. There's no doubt that I’m furious--I never want to see the Reaper again. But I don’t want Sebastian to go and rip his limbs off. “Don’t torture him--it’s obvious that he’s not exactly sane.”

“You’ve forgiven him too quickly, (y/n),” Sebastian tells me gruffly. “He almost took all of the pain and torture you had faced throughout your miserable life and put it to waste. W-what if I hadn’t found you? What if you were left to hate me even after we had come across each other again? Even the potential consequences of his actions cannot go unpunished. I promise you to make sure of it.”

“N-no,” I tell him. “Let’s just have him over for dinner or something. You can yell at him all you want. But remember, Grell is the one who delivered Alois.”

“I should check on the baby, shouldn’t I?” Sebastian grumbles. He gets up and slowly begins to leave the room. “He woke up crying for you in the middle of the night. I couldn’t wake you up...so I took care of him.”

“You’re the best!” I call to him. I get up quickly and follow my demon down the hall to our son’s room. “You’re going to be a great father, Sebastian.”

“Aren’t you kind,” he mumbles. I follow him into Alois’ room and watch as he begins to coddle his child first thing in the morning. It’s nice to see the infant resting peacefully in his father’s arms. “Don’t look at me like that.”

“Like what?” I ask him with a smirk. “It makes me happy to see you happy.”

“You might as well see me happy before you have to see me angry.”

There’s a large wet spot on my chest from Alois drooling heavily as he sleeps. It was hard balancing him on my chest while sitting up in my chair, but Jasper came in once again and sat on my lap, right underneath Alois, in order to hold him up. Pluto is sleeping--in his human form--at my feet. I’m looking over the recent expenses of the company while Sebastian finalizes the plans for our departure to America. My father is busy grocery shopping at the moment, so Sebastian thought he could take the moment to be productive. But right now, he’s too upset with Grell to do anything. His fingers keep drumming loudly on the table--something I would have told him to stop if it had not lulled Alois to sleep rather quickly. He also keeps fidgeting in his chair every three seconds.

“Are you that upset?” I whisper harshly to him.

“I’m waiting for him to arrive,” he replies in the same manner.  “We’re not all as graced as you are to forgive even the most heinous of crimes so easily.”

    “Apparently not.”

“You should keep Alois in his room. I don’t want him to know that his father is a monster so early in life.”

“That’s not something I want to hear,” I whisper, shocked that he would even dare to call himself a monster.

“It’s something the three of us are going to have to deal with,” Sebastian sighs as he stands up. “Excuse me, my Master is calling for me.”

“I need to put Ciel in his place,” I mumble as I watch Sebastian leave. I place my hand gently on Alois’ head and smile at his sleeping form. “My little Alois has already changed for the better.” But what about Sebastian? He is certainly kinder than he was to me at first. But is cruelty in his nature? Or is it just a behavior he has been forced to learn in his time in hell? Either way...I love him more than I love any other. I just...don’t want him hurting people for my sake.

Alois suddenly stirs in my arms. He begins to cry softly. I try to hush him and coo him back to sleep, but his crying only grows louder. I eventually am forced to kick the cat off my lap and carry Alois to the kitchen, still sobbing loudly in my arms. I just changed him before he napped and he doesn’t stink, so he must be hungry. I have to warm up the milk on the stove--which takes fifteen minutes of Alois’ cries growing louder and louder with each passing second. If the baby wasn’t my son...he’d be out on the streets by now. I manage to poor the body-temperature milk into a bottle for Alois while holding the loud infant in my arms.

And like magic, as soon as the bottle touches my son’s lips, he silences. And even more conveniently, Sebastian walks into the kitchen looking slightly aggravated. “I need to find a way to break this contract,” he mumbles as he sits down at the kitchen table. “Ciel is barely giving me any time to think. I still need to figure out how I am to deal with Grell and that demon child is just as power hungry as always.”

“What did he want?” I ask him quietly. I sit down in Sebastian’s lap and he quickly wraps his arms around me.

“He doesn’t want to go to America anymore...he thinks it’s a filthy place,” he mumbles in my ear. “I can’t convince him of anything, (y/n).”

“I’ll talk to him after Alois goes back to sleep,” I reply.

“You should yell at him about complaining about Alois as well,” Sebastian mumbles. “The entire time...he was just yelling at me about his crying.”

“We’re going to have to train Ciel to be a good big brother,” I whisper with a smile. “I have no worries.”

    “You’re still much too trusting.”

“Here, Sebastian,” I mumble as I place a sleeping Alois in his arms. “I’ll go talk to Ciel.”

“Don’t be gentle,” Sebastian tells me, taking Alois in his arms and placing a kiss on my cheek.

“Don’t say things like that,” I tell him as I walk away. Sebastian is just in a mood because he’s mad at Grell--who he doesn’t like all too much in the first place. That and the fact that he’s going to be stuck as Ciel’s indentured servant for quite some time. And I suppose Ciel isn’t helping the situation at all. Perhaps all he needs is someone to talk to him about what his situation should be from here on out.

I enter his “office” without knocking--it’s my house--and find the spoiled child sleeping with one of the schoolbooks Sebastian had given him to read in order to catch up with other students his age. "Ciel," I mumble as I shake him awake softly. "You're a demon now...you shouldn't fall asleep so easily."

Ciel opens his eyes slowly. "What do you want, (y/n)?" he asks me quietly. "Did you finally throw that bloody baby out the window?"

I smack him upside the head. "That's my son you're talking about, idiot. He was just hungry. And we need to talk."

“What do we need to talk about.”

“When we move to America,” I start as I sit down on the armrest of his chair, “Sebastian and I are going to have to pose as your parents. That means you won’t be able to boss Sebastian around like the tyrant you’ve been for quite some time. You will have to treat Alois like a brother, not the scum sucking swine you really believe he is. I know you believe that I can’t make you behave, but there are other people in this house that can.”

Ciel glares at me for a moment before blushing and looking away. “It’s not fair…” he mumbles. “You shouldn’t be allowed to be able to manipulate people like this. You have no ambition...you’ll never use your ability properly.”

“Perhaps the fact that I only manipulate people to better them is using the ability properly,” I tell him softly. “Do you understand me?”

“I...I understand...you want me to stop abusing Sebastian and to be kinder towards your son,” he mutters. “It doesn’t sound like fun.”

“Living a seemingly normal life will be strange to all of us,” I reply. “It will too be fun. You’ll actually make friends--if you can grow out of this snobby stage of yours. I’m looking forward to our new life.”

“Whatever. Why don’t you go start dinner? I heard we were going to have a guest tonight.”

“I don’t even want to talk about it,” I mumble as I make my way out of the room. “I’m very proud of you, Ciel. Thank you for being more reasonable than usual.”

“I figured you deserve some cooperation after all you’ve been through.”

“Everything I’ve gone through is worth it now.”

Alois refuses to nap while we eat dinner. He refuses to leave my arms. Since the moment Grell came over, he’s been wide awake and as clingy as ever. I can’t put him down for even a second. Even when I attempt to put him in his father’s arms, Alois starts screaming the moment he loses contact with me. I knew he was going to be a demanding baby. I just knew it from the start.

And to make things better, Sebastian has been acting rather friendly toward the Reaper. It’s potently fake. There’s a dark aura that surrounds him and here at the dinner table, where he sits next to me and pretends like he enjoys eating my food, his shadow is beginning to crawl up my leg. I smack every time it creeps too far or starts to hurt. But Sebastian is going to something rash...I already know it.

“Oh Bassy~” Grell calls out from across the table, completely oblivious to how sinister Sebastian’s aura really is. “Your baby is almost as adorable as you are!”

“Why thank you, Mr. Sutcliff,” Sebastian replies rather cheerfully. “He looks a bit more like his grandfather than I would have liked...but I do believe he’s perfect.” The smile falls gently from his face as he looks deep into Grell’s strange eyes. “I only wish that I was able to spend even a bit of time with (y/n) before he gave birth. And I wish even more desperately that I could have been by his side when you were cutting him open.”

Grell averts his gaze for a moment. “It is a pity. You broke (y/n)’s heart by not being there for him. He hated you for it.”

“I didn’t hate him,” I mumble as I begin to bottle feed Alois. I don’t even dare look at Grell. My eyes will give too much away. “I thought he hated me.”

Sebastian says something else to Grell, who replies. I don’t really pay attention to either of them. I’m too busy watching as Alois’ wide, violet eyes slowly droop more and more as he drinks his warm milk. I can see one start to look a bit darker than the other. Alois’ right eye seems to be a shade more crimson than his left. I wonder what he’ll look like when he’s a bit older...I guess it doesn’t matter right now...Alois is my precious little baby. He finishes the bottle and his eyes finally close completely. I have to burp him before I lay him down in his crib for a nap.

Sebastian is still saturating Grell in false pleasantness. I hold Alois to my chest and begin to pat his back lightly. It doesn’t take long for the infant to burp...and puke on me. “Uh...excuse me,” I say softly as I stand up. “I’ll be right back…”

I wipe Alois’ mouth gently before I lay him down for his nap. I have to change my shirt too. Leave it to Alois to pick to worst time possible to make me leave Sebastian alone with our guest. He knows exactly what he’s doing. Alois is just as devious as his father--actually...he’s just as devious as his former self. He knows something is going to happen...and he doesn’t want me there to stop it.

I let out a heavy sigh and accept defeat. Sebastian will have the next three minutes to do what he wants to Grell while I change my shirt and get the puke out of my hair. I just manage to button my clean shirt up all the way when a loud and surprisingly masculine scream sounds through the entire mansion. I quickly make my way down the hall to see what Sebastian has done this time.

“Ah! Bassy! What have you done to me!?” Grell screams.

“You tried to cut me off from (y/n),” I can hear Sebastian say darkly. “I only intended to return the favor.”

I walk into the dining room and find a distraught Grell holding his long red locks in his arms. Tears are already starting to stream down his face. “B-but red is t-the c-color of p-passion!” he sputters. “H-how c-ould you ju-just t-take it f-from me!?”

“Just like you tried to take (y/n) from me? You stole his Record right out from underneath his nose while he was convinced that you were on his side,” Sebastian spits. “Do you understand how much time he spent in agony, waiting for me to come home to him? How was I to know where on Earth he was when you had taken my only means of finding him? You haven’t received nearly what punishment you deserve. Just be thankful I let you keep some of your hair.”

“H-how c-could you?” Grell whimpers as he holds his severed locks closer to his chest. “My red...my beautiful red. Now you’ll never love me, Bassy.”

“(y/n),” Sebastian calls to me quietly. “Please escort our guest out. I don’t want to harm him in a manner you wouldn’t approve.”

“Ah...so that’s it...you just wanted to make him cry…” I mumble as I help a blubbering Reaper up. “It’s fine, Grell,” I tell him once Sebastian has left to check on Alois as well as Ciel. I can’t help myself from comforting even this idiot who deliberately tried to separate Sebastian and me. I lead him to the door and touch the ends of his much shorter hair. “It doesn’t look bad. Sebastian cut my hair too.”

“H-he did?” His eyes light up...dammit. “Oh Bassy! You are still my beautiful tyrant! My angelic devil! My raven with the wings of a dove! My little lamb with the appetite of a wolf! My very own Sebastian darling!”

“Actually,” I tell the Reaper as I push him out the door and close it behind him, “he’s mine.”

I collapse on the bed next to Sebastian and turn to glare at him. Even though he’s incredibly adorable with Alois drooling on his chest like that, he’s still an idiot. “What?” he asks me after a moment of silence.

“Why did you do that to Grell?” I ask him harshly.

“I told you before; he deserved to be punished,” Sebastian replies.

“Yeah...but did you have to cut his hair?” I groan. “My God, Sebastian! You know what I told him on his way out? I told him that you had cut my hair too! Now he thinks he has an even better chance with you…”

“I have a son with you now. That clueless idiot is going to have to accept reality sooner or later,” Sebastian mumbles. He runs his fingers gently over Alois’ soft head. “I don’t think I’ve ever felt happiness as I have felt it now.”

“You’re so sweet!” I coo as I forget my bitter feelings and curl up closer to Sebastian.

“He’s not sweet,” Someone grumbles from the door. My father walks into our room with Pluto right behind him: Sebastian’s two favorite people. Pluto jumps onto the bed and cuddles between Sebastian and me. I think it’s cute, but Sebastian has other words for it. “Michaelis,” my father grumbles. “Would you mind explaining why there are several red hairs in my kitchen?”

“Ash,” Sebastian call back with the same attitude he had shown Grell at dinner. “Please, if you allow me to call you by your first name, it is only just that you call me by mine.”

“Sebastian,” my father then grumbles. “Explain what’s happened in my absence.”

“Turn the light off and come here,” Sebastian replies. He grabs my hand gently and whispers in my ear, “I’m feeling more generous than usual tonight. Make some room on the end for you father.”

“Are you serious?” I ask him gently. He’s already sharing the bed with Pluto. Will he be able to handle my father as well? “You don’t have to…”

“It’s fine. I’m in a rather pleasant mood. Ciel is asleep, so he won’t be bothering me any time soon. I have you, and our son, and Jasper.” He pats the head of the cat that’s curled around Alois to keep our baby warm. “Let’s make tonight a good night. We can end all feuds amongst ourselves and prepare to start a new life together. What do you say, Ash?”

“I suppose…” he starts as he lies down next to me, “after all my son has been through due to my actions, I can support him in the life he has chosen to live.”

I let out a quiet chuckle and pull both Sebastian and my father closer to me. “Thank you...even though you’re both idiots sometimes...like today...you two have finally given my life meaning. We can give Alois a good life….especially in America. And...things are finally going perfectly, even though it took us all a lot to get here.”

“We can leave the past behind us,” Sebastian whispers in my ear. “All we need is what love you have found for us. You can sleep well tonight knowing that.”
As the Winter Soltice, first day of Christmas vacation, and my birthday, this is my gift to you. I plan on ending this series within the next two chapters, so be prepared.
I don't own Black Butler.
